A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has accused the Nigerian presidency of allegedly preparing a smear campaign against its owner, Karl Von Batten.
The firm made the allegation in a statement posted on its verified X account on Tuesday, following its decision to make publicly accessible what it described as FBI and court records relating to President Bola Tinubu.
The firm claimed it expected fresh allegations to be circulated against Von Batten in an attempt to divert public attention from the contents of the records.
It alleged that possible claims could include assertions about Von Batten’s identity, his surname and even his relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The firm stated:
“They may even say that Dr Von Batten is Atiku Abubakar’s secret son, again, false.”
Von Batten-Montague-York urged Nigerians and the international community not to be distracted by what it described as diversionary tactics, insisting that attention should remain focused on the allegations contained in the FBI records.
The firm also made serious allegations against President Tinubu, which remain disputed and were presented by the firm as part of its ongoing political campaign.
The Nigerian presidency has not, in the statement provided, responded to the latest allegations.
