Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has reacted to the growing disagreement between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum.
The controversy followed comments by APC governors, led by Imo State Governor and forum chairman Hope Uzodimma, distancing themselves from Wike’s political coalition in Rivers State.
In a viral video, Uzodimma said APC governors would not support any political alliance or arrangement that could undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid or weaken the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike subsequently responded during an interview on Arise TV, criticising the governors and describing them as politically “lazy” despite being smart.
The FCT minister also maintained that he would not assist the governors in securing electoral victories in their respective states, arguing that the coalition arrangement currently exists only in Rivers State.
Reacting during an appearance on Channels TV on Tuesday night, Fayose said Nigerians were already familiar with Wike and the institution of the Governors’ Forum.
“Nigerians know who Wike is and the institution, the Governors’ Forum, and they are both saying different things in different ways,” Fayose said.
The former governor said the disagreement between Wike and the APC governors was not fundamentally about President Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election.
“But don’t forget, everybody has his own ego. Every one of us, including myself,” Fayose added.
The comments come amid continuing political realignments and disagreements among political actors as parties and influential figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
