A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has urged the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) to reconsider its approach to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, warning that the minister could attract significant interest from other political parties if he withdraws his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, made the remarks during an interview on Arise News on Monday.
His comments came amid growing disagreements between Wike’s Rainbow Coalition and some APC governors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker said the APC still needs Wike and urged governors to engage him through negotiation rather than confrontation.
According to Jibrin, Wike has remained politically relevant beyond his previous elective office and could retain that influence regardless of his position in government.
He said the APC benefited from Wike’s support during the 2023 election and argued that the party should maintain dialogue with him ahead of 2027.
Jibrin also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s engagement with Wike ahead of the 2023 election, arguing that a similar approach could help prevent political divisions that may affect the APC.
He cautioned APC governors against adopting a uniform approach to their political challenges, noting that circumstances differ from state to state.
The lawmaker further criticised the decision by some governors to publicly oppose Wike’s coalition, saying direct discussions could provide an alternative way of managing their differences.
Jibrin maintained that he would continue to intervene in political matters he believes could affect President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
His comments come as political actors continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with Wike’s political alignment attracting increasing attention.
