Authorities have identified Adeniyi Kayode, 47, as the driver involved in a serious road accident that reportedly injured British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua and resulted in the deaths of two individuals, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred while Kayode was driving a vehicle linked to Joshua.
The crash claimed the lives of Ghami and Ayodele at the scene, while Joshua was said to have sustained injuries and was later taken for medical treatment. Further details on the extent of Joshua’s injuries have not been officially disclosed.
Speaking after the incident, Kayode denied allegations of reckless driving or speeding. He claimed the accident was caused by mechanical failure, stating that the vehicle’s brakes stopped functioning despite repeated attempts to stop the car.
Kayode also said he had worked as Anthony Joshua’s driver for the past three years.
Law enforcement authorities have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials stated that if found culpable under relevant sections of Nigerian law, Kayode could face severe legal consequences, including a possible life sentence.
Investigators are expected to examine the vehicle involved, review witness accounts, and determine whether negligence, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the fatal incident. The case has drawn public attention due to Anthony Joshua’s high-profile status and the tragic loss of life.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged the public to allow due legal process while refraining from speculation. Further updates are expected as more facts emerge.
