Former Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide and foremost aspirant for the Office of Secretary General of the Council, Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta Ph.D has called for the continuation of the present Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state His Excellency Pst. Dr. Peter Akpe, in office beyond the 14th February, 2028 transaction.
Igbeta made the remark in an interview with newsmen who called for his comments following a thanksgiving service held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in celebration of the revered man of God and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
Igbeta who was very vocal in support of the late Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, when asked for his assessment of his late principal’s successor; was full of praise for Dr. Akpe who he sees to have achieved so much in so little time, basically stabilizing the ship of the state and held perfect brief for the Executive Governor of Bayelsa His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri, who has learned to trust the acumen of his immediate friend and ally in the development of Bayelsa State.
“Everyone know me , I have not held back since the day my late boss ebbed out, that only Pst. Akpe presently can step into Lawrence shoes and render to Bayelsans that quality of work and mental as well as intellectual resources to complement the Governor, today we all are witnesses and we must commend His Excellency the Government for such an excellent choice. Dr. Peter Akpe has held every sector of the state and has shown humane commitment to the development of the state, he does so passionately” igbeta was quoted in part
On his wishes for the state Deputy Governor, Barr. Igbeta continued in commendation to Pstr. Akpe who he said deserves the full support of Bayelsans, Igbeta remarked that he personally is not happy that a man like Akpe will serve only as Deputy Governor and for a very brief time.
“For me, I like to see Akpe at the very pinnacle of power, because he has a very large heart that will ultimately benefit Bayelsans across all walks of life, therefore I advocate and call on the political class especially His Excellency the Governor to make it possible for Akpe to remain in Creek Haven beyond his current tenure, as Deputy Governor, ” Barr. Igbeta continued.
On the question of whether he Igbeta has gained the support of the Deputy Governor for the forth coming IYC elections, Igbeta responded a flat No! The Secretary General aspirant however cleared that everyone contesting the Office is inherently qualified and are all sons of the Prosperity administration, therefore the Deputy Governor need not support him nor anyone in particular, that Dr.Akpe has stayed in tune with the Governor’s directive that the Prosperity administration remains neutral and for the ELECO to do a good job, ensures that fairness and justice, this according to Igbeta is in spite of his close relationship with the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
