ASABA — Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and rewarding dedication to public service.
The governor announced the approval on Tuesday during the Dinner and Award Night held in Asaba as part of activities marking the 2026 Public Service Week celebration.
His announcement was met with loud applause from civil servants and other dignitaries in attendance, who welcomed the initiative as a significant boost to workers’ welfare.
Governor Oborevwori said the 13th-month salary bonus was introduced to appreciate the commitment, hard work and invaluable contributions of civil servants to the growth and development of Delta State.
He noted that the gesture reflects his administration’s recognition of the sacrifices made by public workers in implementing government policies and delivering essential services to the people.
According to the governor, the initiative is expected to enhance staff motivation, improve productivity and further strengthen the efficiency of the Delta State Civil Service.
With the approval, Oborevwori has become the first governor of Delta State to introduce a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants, a milestone widely seen as a major incentive for the state’s workforce.
The 2026 Public Service Week was organised to celebrate the dedication of public servants and acknowledge their critical role in governance and service delivery across Delta State.
