The 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that law enforcement agencies have been politicised ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
Adebayo made the allegation on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, expressing concern over the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
The SDP chieftain pointed to reports of violence and what he described as unfair practices ahead of the Osun poll, warning that the situation could set a troubling precedent for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the developments in Osun should serve as a lesson for political actors and electoral authorities, stressing that the 2027 elections must not be conducted in the same atmosphere.
Adebayo also said the SDP’s governorship candidate was only formally recognised a day before the interview, but maintained that the party had nevertheless participated in debates and campaigns and had done everything required ahead of the election.
He urged stakeholders to ensure that law enforcement and the electoral process remain impartial, credible and free from political interference.
