Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has accused three former officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of undermining the opposition party and allegedly handing it over to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on the Kaa Truths podcast, Melaye alleged that former PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and former Organising Secretary Umar Bature worked to weaken the party and ultimately “sell” it to the ruling APC.
Melaye further accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of organising what he described as the party’s “final funeral.”
The allegations come amid years of internal crisis within the PDP, with various factions and party stakeholders accusing one another of actions that have weakened the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike has remained a major figure in the party’s internal disputes, particularly following his disagreements with former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar after the 2023 election.
Meanwhile, Melaye has also warned President Tinubu not to become complacent about the 2027 presidential election. Referring to the political history of former military ruler General Sani Abacha, Melaye argued that political support and endorsements do not necessarily guarantee electoral success.
He urged Tinubu to recognise what he described as the “God factor” in political affairs, maintaining that political calculations alone cannot determine the outcome of future elections.
Melaye’s accusations against the former PDP officials and Wike are political claims and were not independently established in the report.
