United Captain Questions Tactical Approach as Italian Side Inflicts Heavy Defeat on Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has criticised manager Michael Carrick’s tactical approach following the club’s reported 4-1 defeat to Italian side Como in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Como delivered an impressive performance, with Nico Paz scoring twice, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón also found the net to secure a convincing victory.

Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation goal for Manchester United, but it was not enough to prevent the English side from suffering a heavy defeat.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes pointed to the coaching staff’s decision not to press Como players aggressively, arguing that the tactical instruction contributed to the team’s struggles.

“It’s a decision from the staff to not press man-to-man and sometimes leave a little space in behind. To wait for them, to give them the ball,” Fernandes said.

He added that the responsibility for the tactical approach rested with Carrick and his coaching staff.

“That’s on the manager and on the staff to see it, it’s not on me,” the United captain stated.

The defeat has intensified concerns over Manchester United’s form under Carrick. According to the report, the club had failed to win its previous seven fixtures in all competitions under his leadership.

Fernandes’ comments are likely to fuel further debate about the team’s tactics, performances and the manager’s approach as Manchester United seek to recover from their disappointing run.
