The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old primary school teacher, Garba Suleiman, over the alleged sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl in Yola South Local Government Area.
The suspect, a resident of Damare, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the girl’s family at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola South.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the minor and sexually abused her.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed the development in a statement, adding that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola.
The police said the case would undergo further investigation, with prosecution to follow based on the outcome of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police condemned all forms of gender-based violence and assured the public that the command would pursue justice in the case.
