High Chief (Hon) Ekisah Sinkumo has publicly disassociated himself from a Facebook post circulating online that comments on the political era of former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson. He stated that he neither authored nor approved the content and clarified his position regarding the former governor.
Sinkumo said his attention was drawn to the post, which appeared under a Facebook handle identified as “Sinkumo Ekisah Youth Initiative.” According to him, he is unfamiliar with the group and has no connection to its activities, despite occasionally seeing its posts on social media.
He explained that a closer examination of the publication shows that the group was not the original author of the content but merely shared it from another source. This, he said, further reinforces his claim that he had no involvement in the creation or dissemination of the message.
The controversial post reportedly suggested that Dickson’s political era had ended and that a new chapter was emerging. Sinkumo emphasized that he did not authorize any such statement and has no reason to publicly criticize the former governor.
Reflecting on his past relationship with Dickson, Sinkumo noted that the former governor played a significant role in his political journey. He stated that they worked together closely for a period before their paths diverged, adding that he moved on after their professional relationship ended.
Despite their differences, Sinkumo maintained that he has never insulted Dickson and does not intend to do so. He described himself as someone whose character and conduct are well known to the former governor, suggesting that Dickson can attest to his disposition.
Sinkumo called on the individuals responsible for sharing the post to remove it from their platform. He stressed that the content was misleading and wrongly attributed to him, which has caused unnecessary controversy.
He also issued an apology to Dickson for any distress or misunderstanding that may have arisen as a result of the post. Sinkumo acknowledged that the situation drew attention due to reactions from individuals he described as strong supporters of the former governor.
According to him, some of the backlash and criticism he received were driven by individuals who may not have verified the authenticity of the post before reacting. He suggested that such responses contributed to the spread of the issue and intensified the misunderstanding.
Sinkumo further alleged that certain individuals frequently target him in similar situations, implying that their actions may be influenced by ulterior motives. However, he did not provide specific details or identify those involved.
In his concluding remarks, Sinkumo urged those who may have wrongly accused him to reconsider their stance. He called for direct communication, suggesting that those with concerns should reach out to him personally to clarify any misunderstandings.
He reiterated that his position remains one of respect toward Dickson and that he has no interest in engaging in public disputes or personal attacks. Sinkumo emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing or reacting to it on social media.
The incident highlights the growing challenges associated with misinformation and misattribution on digital platforms, particularly in the political space. It also underscores the potential impact such content can have on reputations and relationships.
As of the time of his statement, Sinkumo expressed hope that the issue would be resolved amicably and that the misleading post would be taken down to prevent further confusion.
