A medical doctor, Dr. Ere Siana Sintei Ogbachi, has died following complications after giving birth to triplets in Bayelsa State. The incident occurred after she delivered the babies at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH) in Okolobiri, Yenagoa.

Dr. Ogbachi, an obstetrician and gynecologist, reportedly developed complications shortly after the delivery. She was subsequently transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Despite efforts by a team of medical experts and specialists to save her life, she died in the early hours of Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Her death has sparked grief among family members, colleagues, and the medical community.

The news of her passing was confirmed by her brother, Meshack Sintei, in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, April 15. He detailed the sequence of events that led to her death and described the family’s final moments with her.

According to him, Dr. Ogbachi had successfully delivered the triplets before her condition deteriorated. The complications necessitated an urgent transfer to FMC Yenagoa for advanced care and monitoring in the ICU.

He recounted that medical personnel worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition. Doctors and specialists reportedly made sustained efforts to revive her as her health continued to decline.

Meshack described the emotional experience of watching his sister struggle to survive. He noted that her oxygen saturation levels, monitored by a pulse oximeter, dropped steadily during her final moments.

He stated that the readings declined from 70 to 50 before eventually reaching zero. At that point, he said, it became clear to the family that she would not survive.

He added that her death occurred at exactly 2:45 a.m. on April 14. The loss has left the family devastated, with her brother describing her as a fighter who battled until the very end.

Dr. Ogbachi was not only a medical professional but also a wife and a new mother to the triplets she delivered. Her passing has been described by her family as a significant loss, both personally and professionally.

She was a registrar at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital and an active member of the Nigerian Medical Association. She was also an alumna of the Niger Delta University.

Her brother emphasized that her life and contributions would be remembered by those who knew her. He also expressed appreciation to friends, relatives, and well-wishers who have offered support to the family during the difficult time.

The incident has drawn attention to maternal health risks, even among trained medical professionals. It highlights the unpredictable nature of childbirth complications, despite access to healthcare facilities and expertise.

Colleagues and members of the medical community have continued to mourn her passing, describing it as a tragic loss. Her death comes at a time when she had just welcomed three newborns into the world.

Her death has left a profound impact on her immediate family, professional peers, and the wider community.
