Tension is mounting within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as aspirants seeking the party’s tickets continue to flood Abuja amid delays in the official declaration of primary election results.

Many party members and supporters had expected the results to be announced immediately after the conclusion of the primaries. However, several days after the exercise, the National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to make an official declaration, fueling speculation and anxiety among aspirants and their supporters.

Sources within the party disclosed that the NWC has been meeting at the NDC National Secretariat in Abuja to review and ratify the outcomes of the primaries before making them public.

The party’s National Leader and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson, had earlier appealed for patience, urging aspirants and party faithful to remain calm and await the official announcement from the party leadership.

Despite the appeal, the prolonged delay has intensified political maneuvering, with many aspirants reportedly relocating to Abuja in a last-minute effort to secure their positions.

One aspirant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the ongoing developments as the “final primaries,” suggesting that intense consultations and negotiations are still taking place behind the scenes before the final list of successful candidates is released.

The NWC meeting, initially expected to conclude on Wednesday with the publication of results, remained ongoing as of press time on Thursday. Neither the party leadership nor Senator Dickson had issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the deliberations.

The delay has generated widespread interest among party members, particularly in Bayelsa State and other areas where the NDC is preparing for forthcoming elections.

Political observers say the eventual release of the results is likely to determine the next phase of political alignments within the party, as aspirants await clarity on their electoral fortunes.

As anticipation grows, all eyes remain on the NDC leadership in Abuja for the long-awaited announcement that will shape the party’s electoral strategy in the months ahead.
