Four-day enforcement exercise targets pharmacies, patent medicine stores and illegal outlets across the state.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 722 out of 950 medicine premises inspected in Bauchi State during a four-day enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.
The affected premises include 52 pharmacies, 339 patent medicine stores and all 331 illegal medicine outlets identified during the operation.
According to the report, the enforcement exercise focused on identifying and addressing regulatory violations among medicine vendors, particularly operators running outlets without the required authorisation.
The closure of the premises represents a significant proportion of the locations inspected, highlighting concerns about compliance with regulations governing the sale and distribution of medicines.
The PCN is responsible for regulating pharmacy practice in Nigeria, including the registration and monitoring of pharmaceutical premises to promote safe and responsible access to medicines.
The enforcement action is expected to reinforce compliance among medicine vendors and help protect members of the public from the risks associated with improperly regulated medicine outlets.
Residents are encouraged to obtain medicines from authorised pharmacies and licensed medicine vendors to support their safety and ensure access to properly regulated pharmaceutical products.
