President urges nationwide grassroots mobilisation as APC positions women at the centre of its re-election campaign.
President Bola Tinubu has charged Dr. Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, and other party women leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu gave the directive during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he praised Nigerian women for their contributions to the party’s electoral successes and the country’s political development.
The President expressed confidence in the ability of women to play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the forthcoming elections, describing them as a powerful force in political mobilisation.
He urged Edu and members of the Women’s Directorate to strengthen their networks across communities and translate their support for the party into votes at the polls.
APC Targets 40 Million Women’s Votes
As part of its preparations, the APC Women’s Mobilisation Directorate has set a target of securing 40 million women’s votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027.
The mobilisation plan reportedly covers 176,846 communities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with emphasis on ward-level organisation, household engagement and polling-unit mobilisation.
The initiative is expected to reach women in markets, rural communities, professional associations, cooperatives, faith-based organisations and other social networks.
Edu has consistently called for unity, discipline and sustained grassroots engagement among APC women, stressing the importance of coordinated efforts beyond major rallies and campaign events.
First Lady’s Empowerment Initiative
The mobilisation drive is also expected to build on the activities of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, particularly her engagements with women and support for empowerment programmes.
At a pre-inaugural Women’s Summit and Empowerment Programme held in Abuja on October 5, women stakeholders from across the country gathered for discussions and the distribution of livelihood-support items, including motorbikes and farm trucks to beneficiaries.
For the APC, the task ahead is to strengthen its grassroots structures, communicate the administration’s policies and sustain engagement with voters as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Tinubu’s directive places Edu and the party’s women leaders at the forefront of the APC’s efforts to mobilise support nationwide and achieve its electoral objectives.
