The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has publicly distanced itself from a group identified as the “Bayelsa State APC Equity Group,” describing it as unrecognized and accusing its members of attempting to create division within the party.

In a press statement dated April 15, 2026, the party’s state chapter rejected claims made in an earlier release issued on April 13 by individuals who identified themselves as Hon. Andrew Amalafamyo and Hon. Timiebi Johny. The APC stated that the group has no official standing within its structure, from ward level to the state executive, and lacks any formal registration or endorsement.

The party characterized the earlier statement as a “baseless smear campaign” and attributed it to “faceless individuals” allegedly seeking to sow discord. It emphasized that party unity remains a central priority as members work toward strengthening the APC’s position in Bayelsa ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the statement, Warman Weri Ogoriba remains the duly elected State Chairman and continues to lead efforts to reposition the party. The APC insisted that claims of internal conflict are unfounded and misleading, noting that the chairman enjoys the support of recognized stakeholders within the party.

The statement also addressed criticisms directed at the administration of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. The APC defended the governor’s record, asserting that his government has pursued inclusive governance through appointments, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives spread across all local government areas.

Specifically, the party refuted allegations that more than 500 political appointments were disproportionately allocated to Ayamasa in Ekeremor Local Government Area. It said such claims do not align with official records available to the party.

On the appointment of Dr. Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor, the APC maintained that the decision was based on merit. It added that the appointment had received broad acceptance across political and administrative structures in the state.

The party also commented on the political ambition of retired General Henry Ayamasaowei, who is reportedly interested in representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District. It described his aspiration as a constitutionally guaranteed right, emphasizing that any qualified individual is free to seek public office.

Responding to comparisons between Bayelsa and other governance models, the APC argued that such assessments fail to acknowledge the progress made under Governor Diri’s administration. It cited improvements in infrastructure, education, security, and economic empowerment as evidence of ongoing development in the state.

The APC used the statement to call for constructive dialogue among party members and stakeholders. It encouraged individuals with grievances to engage through official channels rather than issuing public statements that could undermine party cohesion.

The party reiterated its commitment to unity, mutual respect, and collective progress, stressing that these values are essential for achieving electoral success in 2027. It urged members to work together toward shared goals and avoid actions that could weaken internal solidarity.

The statement was signed by Warman Weri Ogoriba on behalf of the APC Bayelsa State Chapter, reinforcing the party’s position and leadership amid the controversy.
