Former chairman of defunct Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, remained in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday as the agency finalized charges against him over alleged financial crimes.

A source within the commission confirmed that Ayeni had been in detention for six days following his arrest in Abuja last Thursday. The source stated that preparations for his prosecution were ongoing and indicated he could be taken directly to court from EFCC custody.

Ayeni is being investigated over allegations of money laundering, misappropriation, and diversion of funds. EFCC operatives had earlier disclosed that the arrest was linked to his alleged involvement in financial misconduct during his time as a business executive and bank chairman.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone line did not connect.

The case adds to ongoing anti-corruption efforts by the commission, with Ayeni expected to face formal charges once the drafting process is completed.
