Nura Aliyu Garwa, a former Senior Special Assistant to the Katsina State Governor, has been arrested by police operatives for allegedly masterminding the abduction of an eight-year-old schoolboy and receiving a multi-million naira ransom share.

Nura Aliyu Garwa (also identified as Nura Aliyu) served as the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development Programme to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

He recently resigned from his position to contest for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly to represent the Batsari Constituency.

An eight-year-old boy was abducted on May 13, 2026, while returning home from a Quranic Islamic school in the Katsina metropolis.

The criminal syndicate initially demanded a ₦50 million ransom from the family. Following negotiations, the sum was reduced to ₦17 million, which was paid to secure the child’s release.

After the boy’s release, the family contacted the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Katsina State Police Command.

An intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of six syndicate members on May 23, 2026. Information from those suspects directly led to Garwa’s arrest on May 24, 2026.

During a search of Garwa’s residence, police operatives recovered ₦7.5 million in cash, suspected to be his personal share of the ransom money. Authorities also seized a Peugeot 307 vehicle and an operational motorcycle
