Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, has been abducted in Katsina State alongside his wife.
The incident was made public on Saturday afternoon by ex-Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who represented Ekiti Central. In a post on his verified Facebook page, Ojudu said he received the report from retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa.
According to the account relayed, the former senior officer and his wife were seized while travelling through Matazu Local Government Area en route to his hometown in Katsina.
The message stated: “Maj Gen R Abubakar former Dir Def Info was kidnapped together with his wife on his way to Katsina today. He was kidnapped along Matazu LGA of KTS. His driver escaped with gunshot injury. The Snr offr Peugeot 504 Red in color is parked at Matazu Div NPF. Plse pass to authorities as appropriate. From Brig Gen Sagir Musa rtd!!”
At press time, neither the Katsina State security command nor the Defence Headquarters had released an official confirmation of the abduction.
Daily Correspondents gathered that Gen. Abubakar headed the Defence Headquarters’ media and public affairs directorate. He took over as Defence spokesman in August 2015 after Major General Chris Olukolade retired, and served in that role until 2017.
