…….Stakeholders highlight rising influence of youth spokesperson in policy engagement and national development conversations

Ambassador Benjamin Adekunle Onileowo, the National Public Relations Officer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, has marked his birthday with renewed recognition of his growing influence in youth advocacy, strategic communication, and national youth policy discourse.

Onileowo, widely known within youth circles as “Aluta Total,” has in recent years positioned himself as a key voice in Nigeria’s youth development space, transitioning from student leadership activism to national-level policy engagement and public communication.

His leadership journey spans multiple layers of student and youth governance, beginning with grassroots involvement in Ekiti State, where he rose through student union structures before expanding his influence to national platforms.

Educated at the University of Abuja, where he graduated in 2023, Onileowo’s leadership profile has been shaped by a blend of academic grounding, digital literacy exposure, and consistent involvement in youth-focused initiatives.

Over the years, he has held several leadership positions, including roles within student unions and national youth associations. His tenure has been marked by initiatives targeting education access, digital skills development, youth empowerment, and institutional reform.

At the Federation of Ekiti State Students’ Union (FESSU), where he served as National President, he championed programmes such as financial literacy training, digital skills bootcamps, leadership summits, and welfare-focused interventions for students. He also supported structural reforms aimed at improving scholarship accessibility and student engagement systems.

Beyond student governance, Onileowo has been active in community and humanitarian service through Lions Club International, contributing to youth development and anti-drug advocacy campaigns targeted at grassroots communities.

His appointment into the National Youth Council of Nigeria headquarters in 2025 as National Social Secretary marked a shift into broader national youth policy engagement. Since assuming office, he has been involved in building strategic partnerships focused on employment, technology training, and social welfare for young Nigerians.

His subsequent emergence as National Public Relations Officer of NYCN has further expanded his visibility, placing him at the forefront of youth communication and national representation.

Reacting to his birthday, Corpers’ Journey Advocacy Network commended his leadership trajectory, describing him as a disciplined and impact-driven youth advocate.

Ajayi Taiwo Adeola, Director of Youth Advocacy and Policy at NYCN and Founder of CJAN, noted that Onileowo represents a new wave of youth leaders focused on practical outcomes rather than rhetoric.

“His engagement in youth-centred collaborations and policy conversations reflects a leadership style grounded in action and measurable impact. He is part of a generation redefining youth advocacy in Nigeria,” he said.

Stakeholders note that Onileowo’s rising profile reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s youth leadership landscape, where communication, innovation, and partnership-building are becoming central to governance participation.

As he celebrates another year, observers say his journey continues to mirror the evolving role of young leaders in shaping national development narratives and strengthening institutional engagement.
