Former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has called for the withdrawal of operating licences issued to MTN Nigeria and MultiChoice Nigeria over renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
Oshiomhole made the call while reacting to reports of increasing attacks on Nigerians and their businesses, saying stronger retaliatory measures are needed to protect citizens abroad.
According to him, South African companies continue to earn huge revenues from operations in Nigeria, adding that revoking their licences would send a strong message to the South African authorities.
His remarks come amid growing diplomatic tensions between both countries following reports of violence targeting foreign nationals, especially Nigerians, in South Africa.
The latest development has also sparked fresh calls from groups and stakeholders for economic and policy measures aimed at safeguarding Nigerians living abroad and addressing repeated xenophobic incidents.
