The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not independently decide to remove Nigeria’s petrol subsidy.
Morka explained that the removal of the subsidy had already been provided for through legislation passed by the National Assembly before Tinubu assumed office.
He made the clarification while defending the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms and responding to criticism surrounding the petrol subsidy policy.
According to Morka, the development should therefore not be presented as a decision taken solely by the President, stressing that the policy had a legislative basis.
The APC spokesman’s comments come amid continued political debate over the impact of the subsidy removal on fuel prices, household expenses and the broader Nigerian economy.
The subsidy removal remains one of the major economic policy issues shaping discussions around the Tinubu administration and the country’s political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections.
